Our SouthWest K9 DanceSport club was established in May 2006. Our home base is in Tucson, Arizona and we have satellite clusters of freestyers throughout Arizona, Southern and Mid California

Our primary focus this past year has been to develop our name, by-laws, mission statement, logo and begin to grow our membership.  We are actively involved in demonstrations in Arizona and Southern California.

In addition, we provide on-going freestyle classes to Beginner and Intermediate students. We teach a Performance and Competition class, as well as a Handler’s Only Class. Many of our members have certified therapy dogs and enjoy sharing freestyle with the patients of many facilities.

New York  PAWS Over NIAGARA K9 Freestylers (Buffalo, NY)

CONTACTS:
Sandy Guzzetti
guzzetti@adelphia.net
Tel: (716) 439-4971

We are located in the Buffalo, New York area.

We actually got together after a reporter from the Buffalo Evening News contacted me and wanted to do an article on freestyle. I was just a freelancing beginner and tried to get him to contact someone with experience and all, but he was insistent on doing a local piece and tailored the article to also include the fact that we are looking for others in our area to start a club and bring the sport of freestyling to Western New York.

So....  he actually inspired the formation of our club and now I am actually giving freestyle lessons at an area Dog Academy to help others get started, and then this allows them an opportunity to meet the three of us (albeit beginners) that got the club off the ground. Once we are a bit more established, I’m going to give our reporter a call and see if he’s interested in what he started.  :o)

There are so many people wanting to try it out and play and dance, I didn’t realize we’ve started a monster I think. I’ve been developing and working on and using a curriculum to fit our 8 week set for our Exploring Freestyle sessions and the next session will be doing actual routines, choreography, music editing and addressing costuming. We have found a dance friend who is a great choreographer with a lot of fantastic suggestions and ideas to come in and give us a hand on what we can do to jazz up the human side of the partners, so we compliment our furry partner. It’s a long journey toward an actual routine, but we are well on our way and we all go home having had a great time with our very tired dance partners curled up asleep by our side.

COMING EVENTS:

On April 13, 2008, JAN MAYR will be the presenter for an informative one day seminar at our indoor training facility in Dayton, OH. She has been involved in the sport of canine musical freestyle in the capacities of competing and instructing for 11 years. Jan has recently returned to doing workshops, and we are delighted that she will be sharing her expertise with us here at Gems and Stars.

In addition, to the workshop on Sunday by Jan Mayer, we plan to have a 'really big show' on Saturday.  This is not a competition, but a glorified show and go. We are going to call it our INNOVATION EXTRAVAGANZA. You will be able to use treats and toys, but discreetly. We want it to be a great training opportunity. Full costumes will be the order of the day. We want the dogs to think this is the International Finals of Freestyledom, while we can relax and have fun and surprise them if they need a boost.

Final plans for this special weekend are in the works, so watch the list for more specific information. Hope you will hold this date, and plan to
join us for a really fun day on Saturday, April 12, then a really informative, and fun learning experience with Jan on Sunday, April 13.

Any questions please contact Morene Stickrod Wanagoreno@aol.com.
