#2 “Label it “……. cues, words, commands and timing…getting the job done, without it being noticeable.
Wies ter Beek (Holland)
8 years ago, Wies ter Beek-Koelewijn, started to train with her first puppie at DTC sports. The theme of Wies: if you do something, DO IT RIGHT! So, she started reading about training dogs. How does a dog communicate and how does a dog learn and so on! Joop Wibier noticed her and saw her eager to learn. He saw in her a person that could teach others, how to train their dogs. So, he gave her the chance to prove herself. Wies ter Beek went to school and got her official trainers-certificate. Today she is teaching dogs and their owners how to behave themselves. For her hobby, Wies started training her dog in Canine Freestyle, which was a new dog sport at that time in Holland. Joop Wibier started training her and after time he made Wies head of the Canine Freestyle departement of DTC sports. Wies noticed there were no rules for competitions in Holland. So, what does a judge want to see? Nobody knew and competitions where never satisfieing. Wies then contacted WCFO and DTC sports became a WCFO club! Wies was educated in freestyle by Patie Ventre, Attila Szkukalek, Anna Schloff, Andy Shimada, Gaby Grohovaz, Cheryl Smith, Linda Topliss, Maymi Azuma and Donelda Guy. All these names gave her the insight in what freestyle should be like! The WCFO rules did the rest. Now Wies is teaching her students by the WCFO rules and is sharing all her knowlegde with her students. It really showed in Holland who was a student of Wies and who was not...This gave her the trainer of the year award of 2006!

Michele Pouliot ( Oregon, USA)
Michele has been a professional guide dog mobility instructor for 34 years and training dogs for 37 years. Before entering the guide dog field, Michele trained under Linda Tellington-Jones and worked as a professional in the equestrian field, instructing horsemanship and training horses for Dressage and 3-Day-Eventing disciplines. At that time Michele also began training her pet Labradors for competitive obedience and became fascinated with the comparisons of how dogs and horses learn, stimulating her interest in professional dog training. She also sought a career that helped others through partnership with their dog.
In 1974 Michele began her career with Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), the largest guide dog school in the USA. Currently, she is their Director of Research and Development. Her position focuses on developing and researching new techniques to improve all areas of student instruction, dog-training programs, and puppy development. Michele also serves as an International Assessor for the International Guide Dog Federation, certifying the quality of member school programs and facilities. She has completed assessments on guide dog schools in Norway, Austria, Czech Republic, France and Great Britain.
In 2000, Michele initiated the modernization of training programs at GDB of which Clicker Training is a primary tool. She presented to a filled to capacity guide dog industry audience on GDBs Clicker Training program at the International Guide Dog Seminar in 2006, at which the response was tremendous. Her school actively supports and assists other guide dog schools in their efforts to adopt Clicker Training into their programs. Michele is recognized internationally for her innovation and creative development in guide dog training and service to blind clients.
Michele became active in canine musical freestyle in 2006 and has been "hooked" ever since. In 2007, she attained MF Championship Titles on both her dogs, "Cabo" a 9 year old Springer Spaniel and "Listo" a 4 year old Australian Shepherd. Michele also remains active in equestrian combined driving events with her miniature horses.
#1 "Cure the Lure "
Does your dog work just fine for you while you have food, then quits working when you don't? Using lures to initially train behaviors can be effective but continued use of lures create real problems in progressing to performance level responses. Michele will offer ways to ensure intentional lures are tools instead of crutches and ways to avoid unintentional lures that hinder progress. Food and toy rewards are only effective in developing competitive performances when handled in specific ways during training.
#2 “The Leash – The Forgotten tool”
Being able to use the leash as a communication tool to train behaviors is a great asset, but a dog must first understand how to respond positively to collar cues – a behavior in itself. Michele will teach and demonstrate how valuable “collar cue response” is for freestyle training.
